How-To

  • 1- Create a folder with the .chk name of your file. For example, if you want to create a voice called data99.chk, create a folder name called 'data99'. Note that you should use a number that does not conflict with other existing TT voices. Maybe start with a higher number like 500.
  • 2- In the voice folder, create a .ini file with the same name as the .chk voice. For example, 'data99.ini'.
  • 3- Put all the voice phrases in order. Those phrases must have the same name as the corresponding .ogg files. See an example of .ini file below. You may change the text on each line, but you must preserve the phrases order. Once done, save the .ini file.
  • 4- Put all the .ogg files in the same folder as the .ini file.
  • 5- Run TT_VoiceMaker
  • 6- In step 1, browse and select the .ini file
  • 7- In step 2, click the Merge OGG to CHK button. This will create a .chk file with the same name as the .ini file and in the same folder.
  • 8- You need to create a .vif file (Voice Info File). See an example below.
  • 9- Optionally, you can also create a 160x160 bitmap for your voice. It should have the same name as the .chk file, but with the extension .bmp
  • 10- Copy the .chk file, the .vif file and the .bmp file to your GPS in the Voices folder by connecting the GPS to your computer with the USB cable. There is probably another way of doing this , but I do not know it. Refer to the TomTom site for more information.

Example of .vif file (only the first 2 lines are really required):
English(US) - Jenny
data99.chk
Jenny
1
2
114
4

Example of .ini file (English): data9999.ini
If you prefer, you can change all the phrases name in the .ini to:
sample_001
sample_002
sample_003
...
sample_059
and name your voice files like:
sample_001.ogg
sample_002.ogg
sample_003.ogg
...
sample_059.ogg

If you need an OGG audio file editor/converter, I recommend the free Audacity program. You can find it here: Audacity web site
